Ця стаття узагальнює аргументи та контраргументи в межах наукової дискусії щодо проблематики взаємозв’язку рівня доходів країн та розвитком їх фінансових систем. Які відмінності між країнами з високим доходом та іншими країнами з точки зору розвитку їх банківських систем? Як членство в Організації економічного співробітництва та розвитку (ОЕСР) впливає на банківську систему країни? Об’єктом дослідження обрано банківські системи 203 країн світу: 31 країна ОЕСР з високим рівнем доходу, 29 країн, що не входять в ОЕСР з високим рівнем доходу, 108 країн з середнім рівнем доходу, 35 країн з низьким рівнем доходу. Для оцінювання стану розвитку банківської системи у кожній із аналізованих країн обрано 9 ключових індикаторів, які характеризують рівень конкуренції між банками, концентрацію активів у п’яти банках, обсяг банківських депозитів, обсяг зобов’язань, діяльність банків-нерезидентів, обсяг офшорних депозитів, обсяг грошових переказів та консолідованих іноземних вимог. Методичним інструментарієм проведеного дослідження слугували методи описової статистики, а також критерій Вілкоксона і Манна-Уітні для оцінювання відмінностей між змінними. Порівнюючи країни з високим рівнем доходу та країнами із середнім та низьким рівнем доходу, визначено, що грошові перекази населення є більшими порівняно з країнами з низьким та середнім доходом. Банківська галузь є більш розвиненою в країнах з високим рівнем доходу, і відповідно банківські депозити також значно вищі в цих країнах. Іноземні банки більш активніше функціонують у країнах з високим рівнем доходу. Крім того, у країнах з високим рівнем доходу спостерігається більший інтерес до здійснення банківських транзакцій за посередництва офшорних компаній. Порівнюючи країни-члени ОЕСР з високим рівнем доходу та країни, що не є членами ОЕСР, доведено, що банківська система в країнах, що не є членами ОЕСР, є більш концентрованою в порівнянні з країнами-членами ОЕСР. Автором статті доведено, що національним органам влади необхідно розглядати членство в ОЕСР як визначальний фактор розвитку банківської системи країни.
